Cats are not like dogs. They can, if all the right factors come together which is not often, but they dont get heart worms easily like dogs do. Heart worms comes from infected mosquitoes. But for some odd reason, cats dont get them easily even when bitten by an infected mosquito. So the heartworms are not a worry for a cat. If by chance you are the 1 in 100,000 that the cats does get them, they make heartguard for cats. If you want to be safe you can spend the money and get them. But that is not necessary. Get some powdered brewers yeast and mix some up in her canned food. This will keep the fleas away . One teaspoon per 10 pounds.

I have never heard of herbal collars. I learned something new. Where do you get these at?

Do you have heartworm in your area? If you do it is important to stay on medication for that, I don’t know of a herbal product that can help prevent this.

As far as fleas go, you could take him off of medication all together if you kept him inside. My indoor cats are not on flea meds but are closely monitored in case we happen to bring something in. Since they never go outside they are not typically exposed to fleas.

Keep in mind that fleas can be very stressful on their own, particularly if the animal has flea allergies. This is something you should discuss with your vet to see if they have any recommendations or can comment on the safety of frontline for a renal kitty.

I have had really good luck with herbal flea collars. Just be careful of the ones with pennyroyal – they can be irritating to the skin of animals that don’t have thick fur. However – the pennyroyal really works well if it’s not making direct contact with the skin. I like the ones that have pennyroyal, lavender and eucalyptus all combined – and cedar. Good luck!
