Help! Any Home Remedies for my sick kitten? ?

Jessica L asked:

Help, my 4 month kitten is sick and we can't take her to the vet because my dad currently doesn't work and will NOT pay for a vet :( My mom is a nurse and works with natural home remedies, but not with pets, just humans! So we have a lot of aromatherapy and different things like that, but we don't know what to use :( Here are her symptoms.

I noticed she seemed more lethargic than normal yesterday, but it was at night so i thought she was sleepy. This morning i woke up and she was sleeping in my bed *which was actually 12pm*, later in the afternoon i noticed she still hadn't moved and didn't seem herself. She hasn't moved from her position all day, i don't believe she's eaten or had anything to drink. Her nose is dry and a bit hot, and when you pick her up she meows like saying "ouch, please put me down!", but not like a "i have a broken bone" but more of a "i'm really achy and don't want to be moved" meow. We just gave her some water through a dropper so she doesn't get too dehydrated, and i know she got at least 1 dropper full of liquid. I put her under my bed so she could rest and my mom put some lavender on her pillow so she could relax and help to ease any pain that she might have.

Please, any thoughts or suggestions? Again, my mom has a lot of medical type things, but they are natural remedies. We just don't know what to use in this particular case.

Natural Pet Remedies

I’m sure your mother, being a nurse, knows an illness cannot be treated unless you know what the illness is. People and cats have very different systems and what works for us can very well kill a cat. Don’t give your cat anything without vet approval and have her checked by someone who knows what they’re doing (a vet). Remind your father that denying medical treatment to an ailing pet is a crime. A cat who isn’t eating or drinking and is lethargic is sick and needs a vet.

I’m not sure what is wrong with your kitty, but I have some suggestions on finding out.
If you search around, either online or in a phone book or elsewhere, you can find places in your area that will check your cat for free or will check her for a small donation.
Also, if you enter your kitties symptoms on this site [ ] or google, yahoo, wikipedia, etc. that is also a good way to find answers.
I wish you luck with your kitty and I hope you figure something out.

You have to get this kitten to a vet NOW – no-one else will be able to help her get better. It sounds very much like cat flu, which is fatal.

There are finance options at the vet – talk to them. At the end of the day, if you’re not able to look after a kitten properly when it’s sick, you should sign it over to the authorities. Anything less than this or going to the vet is totally irresponsible, unfair on the kitten, and you risk serious penalties – which would no doubt cost more than going to the vet originally would!

Your cat needs vet care; ask them if you can work off the bill. It appears to be very sick, and withholding vet care even if you don’t have the money is a criminal act.

Or you can rehome it – talk to the vet. You shouldn’t have a pet if you can’t care for it. Sorry but true.
