gerber baby asked:

This is specifically for two pet bunnies we have. I have bought a product at the pet store that takes the amonia smell out of the urine, but it is quite expensive. Is there a home remedy--something I can add to their water to deodorize the urine?

You can use white vinegar to reduce the urine smell, but DO NOT feed it to them. It will make them sick and will not reduce the smell internally.
The smell comes from the urine breaking down into ammonia and other products. The white vinegar will break down the ammonia and reduce the odor.
You could also try getting a cat litter with baking soda, or one of the multi-cat types and litter train your rabbits. My rabbit is litter trained so I can let her run loose in the house when I’m home. (She still has a tendency to nibble on the furniture, so has to be contained when I’m not home).

My mom uses viniger (spelt it wrong but you get my drift )

Vinegar & water is one good way, half & half. OR if your carpet isn’t dark color, you could try 1 cup water to 2 tbsps lemon juice. Lemon is a naturally deoderizing scent. We used to get a product from the VET, not pet store, called Elemenodor (sp?). It works very well, but it’s a bit pricey.

We litter trained our rabbits, we used tidy cat cat litter, and a very large litter pan (actually a cement mixing tub). Rabbit urine will stain, so you’re better off keeping them confined to an area away from carpet.
